The Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing group (Prof. Dr. Konrad Schindler) at the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry is seeking applications for a PhD Candidate / Research Assistant
“Integrated monitoring of ice in selected Swiss lakes”
The project is initiated by the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology and project partners are the Remote Sensing Group of University of Bern and the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology. The aim is to use satellite images (MODIS, VIIRS) to estimate when the lake icing starts and ends and its spatial extent.
The ideal candidate
• shows interest in performing cutting edge research, strong motivation and a desire to learn
• has an excellent degree (M.Sc., M.Eng. or equivalent) in Geodesy/Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related field (e.g. Geography, Physics, Electrical Engineering)
• brings experience in satellite image processing, photogrammetry, image processing/computer vision, including strong mathematics and statistics skills
• is able to critically judge other research and develop own methods and work inde-pendently and within a team with the project partners and our Group
• brings good programming experience (with preference in Matlab, Python, C/C++)
• has very good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
