Costs and benefits of inter-sectoral interventions promoting healthier and environmentally sustainable lifestyles

 

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) opens a competitive call for applications for a Postdoctoral contract in the context of a project financed by the European Commission H-2020 Program under the H2020-PHC-2014-2015 Call – PHC-04-2015 topic: INHERIT: Inter-sectoral Health Environment Research for InnovaTion.

INHERIT aims to define effective inter-sectoral policies and interventions that promote health and well-being across the social gradient by tackling key environmental stressors and related inequalities in the areas of living, consuming and moving. It aspires to encourage a change in current lifestyles, characterized by a “take, make, consume, dispose” models of growth, to formulate scenarios for a more sustainable future and to design, implement, evaluate and test inter-sectoral initiatives to achieve the desired change. In BC3, specific attention will be given to improving accessibility and use of green areas, and interlinks with food habits and sustainable mobility will be analysed as well.

Specific tasks

    Develop a methodological framework to assess costs and benefits of selected interventions  encouraging healthier and more sustainable behaviour.
    Contribute to the integration of cost-benefit/cost-effectiveness tools with epidemiologic evidence on the health impacts of selected interventions.
    Contribute to other tasks related to the project (e.g. surveys on behavioural changes, analysis of future trends in lifestyles).
    Prepare deliverables for the European Commission, participate in project meetings.
    Publish high-impact, peer-reviewed research in international scientific journals.
    Contribute to the Health and Climate research line at BC3.

Essential qualifications and skills

    PhD in environmental or health economics and demonstration of a track record of peer-reviewed publications as well as the ability to initiate and complete original research.
    Strong background in econometric modelling, quantitative analysis and coding skills (statistical-econometric software such as STATA, R, Limdep (NLOGIT), or similar).
    Economic valuation approaches/tools for public health and the environment.
    Good interpersonal as well communication skills (both written and oral) in English.

Desirable qualifications and skills

    Expertise in health- and environmental impact assessment.
    Knowledge of the literature on environment, health and climate change.

Envisaged starting date of the contract:March-April 2017.

Term of contract: The position will be for a period of 24 months (with possible extension).

Salary: The position will carry competitive salary, matching the academic and professional profile of the applicant, and excellent conditions of work.

Location: Basque Centre for Climate Change, Bilbao (Spain)

2.    A Curriculum Vitae, including: education (bachelor degree, master degree, PhD), courses taken as relevant for the position, peer-reviewed publications related to the topic, specific technical skills, and previous work related to the topic (other research positions, Phd thesis, master’s thesis, reports and others).
