Our Center is seeking a highly motivated and innovative researcher from the field of Earth Surface processes to characterize short-term landscape evolution in the western part of the Andes, starting in September 2015. We would like to address how the landscape reacts to extreme events such as heavy rains or great subduction earthquakes. In particular our interest is in developing qualitative and quantitative models for characterizing short-term landscape response to these processes. Through this we mean to develop natural hazard models that include recurrence and intensity.
The Postdoctoral researcher will work on data collection and data processing to develop integrated models. Therefore, the ability to communicate results to researchers from other disciplinary lines is highly required. The selected researcher will also be required to generate scientific publications in high impact peer reviewed journals. The position would be guaranteed for 1 to 2 years pending an internal evaluation.
Required qualifications:
The candidate must hold a PhD in an area related to geology or geomorphology, in particular in hydrological processes, sedimentology and/or fluvial processes. Computation and computer assisting data processing is also necessary. Previous work experience shall be demonstrated through publications in international indexed journals. The candidate should be fluent in English.
Minimum expected achievements to allocate a 2nd year postdoctoral funding from CIGIDEN:
At the end of the first year, postdoctoral fellows should have submitted at least one paper to an indexed international journal, and a research proposal to the Conicyt Postdoctoral program (expected to be open in April-May 2016). Successful applicants will be appointed in the Universidad Católica del Norte, and will reside in Antofagasta, Chile, where they will receive a gross stipend of 1.500.000 CLP (~2.400 USD) per month, as well as travel expenses for those living overseas.
Our Center will host the postdoctoral researcher starting in September 2015.
